It's peak tick season in North Carolina! As you spend more time outside in woody or brushy areas, take a moment to review this tick safety checklist:
- Before going outside: Use an EPA-approved repellent and wear loose fitting, long clothing.
- After coming inside: Check your whole body (especially underarms, behind knees, and the scalp) after being outdoors. Take a shower within two hours of coming inside to wash off unattached ticks and check for any that have attached to your body. Toss your outdoor clothes into the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill any hidden ticks!
